History

DWLS, operating as Barangay LS 97.1, is the flagship FM radio station of Radio GMA Network Inc. (RGMA, a subsidiary of GMA Network Inc.) in the Philippines. [1] The station's studio is located at the GMA Network Center in Quezon City, while its transmitter is located at Tandang Sora, Quezon City, Philippines.

The station's call letters (DWLS) were derived from the name Loreto, wife of former GMA (then RBS) owner, the late Robert "Uncle Bob" Stewart.

101.9 For Life (DWRR 101.9 MHz Metro Manila) is the flagship FM station of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation in the Philippines. Acquired by ABS-CBN in 1986, it is broadcast live throughout the Philippine archipelago as well as throughout the world via The Filipino Channel (TFC). The studios located at ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center, Mo.Ignacia St., Quezon City. Its transmitter is located along Sumulong Highway, Antipolo, Rizal.

90.7 Love Radio

History

Love Radio was previously known by its call letters DZMB when it began broadcasts on the FM band in 1975 from its first broadcast days on the AM band. Back then, it played mainstream pop, later gravitating to easy listening music. As DZMB, it also introduced and institutionalized the deep-voiced radio announcers.

  • Pinong Lagari (Kadyot Pinong) – The character behind "Kadyot lang! Kadyot lang", Cebuano for "Wait up!" which became one of the station's catchphrases. His story was recently immortalized in the TV anthology Magpakailanman.
  • Kukurukuku – The chipmunk-sounding character who first popularized "Kailangan pa bang i-memorize 'yan!" (Does it have to be memorized?)

91.5 Energy FM

History

  • In 1984, 91.5 Energy FM use to be known as KY 91 5 under Mabuhay Broadcasting System, Inc. (MBSI) which also owned DZXQ 1350 AM playing classic rock hits during the late 80's and the rest of the 90's.
  • Then in 1998, KY 91 5 became K91 FM playing mainly novelty and pop music.
  • In October 2003, Ultrasonic Broadcasting System acquired the FM operations of MBSI, and DWKY-FM was relaunched under a new name, 91.5 Energy FM.
  • In July 2006, The Edge Radio of United Christian Broadcasters occupied the 6pm - 6am timeslot of Energy FM. But on November 2006, UBSI reclaimed the said block and resumed broadcast on a 24-hour basis.

93.9 iFM

History

  • From 1978 - 1999, DWKC was known as 93.9 WKC a C-D-E market radio station with famous taglines including "We are family". It was managed by Mike Enriquez, at that time known as "Baby Michael". 93.9 WKC operations were at the Philcomcen Bldg. in Ortigas Center Pasig.
  • In 1999, WKC 93.9 reformatted to "Live it up!" 939 KCFM , now catering to the A-B market, DWKC featured Chico and Delamar (previously from Monster Radio RX 93.1). 939 KCFM lasted until 2002.
  • In 2002, Reformatted back to a C-D-E market radio station, known as 93.9 iFM Pwede!, it is headed by Fred M. Davis who was responsible for making 102.7 Star FM, YES! FM and 90.7 Love Radio successful stations.
  • Recently, i! FM launched another tagline Pinalakas! As the Makati Studios Were Transferred To Atlanta Center In San Juan City. RMN's Sister Station, DZXL & It's Studios Remained In Makati City.

Magic 89.9

History

The station began regular operations on Valentine's Day 1986, broadcasting from the Philippine Communications Center building (PHILCOMCEN) in Pasig City, starting with a 10 on-air crew led by Bernie Buenaseda, known on-air as "Burning Bernie". It became a witness to history unfolding before the Filipinos as the station was also started 11 days before the end of the Marcos Dictatorship. The Classic DJs during that period inclusive of Bernie, were the Fab 10; Little David, Joe D'Mango, Sgt.Pepper, The Gaucho, Paul Reno, Ken Fortun, Rockin' Robin, Michael Vincent and Johnny Gizmo.

DWRX, currently branded as Monster Radio RX 93.1, is a music FM radio station owned by Audiovisual Communicators Inc. in the Philippines. The station's studio is located at the 17th floor of Strata 2000 Bldg., Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Center., Pasig City. Before its current brand, it was known as RX93 from 1983 - 1995.

99.5 RT

History

It was in 1976 when 99.5 RT first went on the air. It was then operated by Trans-Radio Broadcasting Corp. (now GVM Radio/TV Corporation, currently operating Rock 990, Cebu's Y 101 & Butuan's Majik 97.5, RT's original sister station). Controlled by the Tuason family, since its inception until 1996, 99.5 RT then transfered ownership to Real Radio Network.
